Poha Pakoda

Poha Pakoda

I bring to you a different yet easy type of Pakoda - Poha Pakoda. This is a Monsoon Special recipe for it's crispy & chatakedaar taste. It is a very simple recipe with all ingredients easily found in an Indian kitchen. It is a savoury dish which is normally served with Mint Chutney.
Pakodas are basically available on the streets of Mumbai which makes Pakodas a best fit for the Mumbai street food category.

What you'll need:

  1. Chickpea Flour (Besan) - 1 cup
  2. Coriander Leaves - ¼ cup
  3. Semi-crushed Peanuts (Singhdana) - ¼ cup
  4. Soaked Flattened Rice (Poha) - ½ cup
  5. Salt - As per taste
  6. Turmeric Powder (Haldi) - ½ tsp
  7. Red Chilly Powder - ½ tsp
  8. Finely chopped Onion (small) - 1
  9. Finely chopped Ginger, Garlic & Green Chilly - 1 tsp
  10. Baking Soda - A pinch
  11. Water - As per requirement
  12. Oil for frying
Tip: If you want, you can use Finely chopped Cabbage, Carrot & Capsicums. But this is totally optional. I have not used these vegetables. The recipe has it's own great taste even without the vegetables.

How to make?

  • Firstly, heat Oil in a pan on a medium flame.
  • Now, take a bowl & mix all the above mentioned ingredients except Baking Soda & Water.
  • Now, add Water slowly in the mixed ingredients to form a thick batter.
  • Now, add Baking Soda.
  • Now, add 1 tsp of hot Oil from the pan into the batter to activate the Baking Soda. Give it a mix.
  • Now, check whether the Oil in the pan has heated or not.
  • Now, with the help of your hand, take a small portion of the batter, put it in the Oil.
  • Let the Pakodas fry on medium flame till they turn golden brown & crispy.
  • Finally, your crispy Pakodas are ready to be served with hot Tea or any drink of your choice.
Specialty of this Pakoda is that it remained crispier even after a couple of hours. It tastes equally good even after a few hours.

Enjoy your rainy day with this chatakedaar Poha Pakoda!
