Sambhar using Homemade Sambhar Premix

What you'll need:

  1. Sambar Premix - ½ cup/3 tbsp (For my Sambhar Premix recipe, click here - https://tastytreatsbyvarsha.blogspot.com/2021/02/sambhar-premix.html )
  2. Hot Water - 3 to 4 cups 
  3. Oil - 2 tsp 
  4. Curry Leaves (Kadi Pata) - 8 to 10
  5. Mustard Seeds (Rai) - ½ tsp 
  6. Urad Dal - ½ tsp 
  7. Chickpea Lentil (Chana Dal) - ½ tsp 
  8. Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1 tsp
  9. Red Chilly (Dried) - 2 to 3 
  10. Asafoetida (Hing) - ¼ tsp 
  11. Ginger (Adrak) - ½ inch piece
  12. Green Chilly - 1 to 2
  13. Tomatoes - 2 
  14. Turmeric Powder (Haldi Powder) - ¼ tsp 
  15. Chilly Powder - ½ tsp 
  16. Jaggery - As per taste 
  17. Salt - As per taste 
  18. Water - As required

How to make?

  • Firstly, take Sambar Premix in a bowl, pour hot water over it, mix well, cover it with a lid & keep it aside.
  • Now, take a pan, add all the ingredients from 3 to 12 & cook for 1 to 2 minutes or till it releases aroma.
  • Now, add Tomatoes & Salt & cook till Tomatoes become tender. At this time if you want to add vegetables (like Drumsticks, Pumpkin & Bottle Gourd) you can add along with Tomatoes.
  • Now, add Sambar Premix & Water mixture prepared above.
  • Now, add Water, Jaggery, Turmeric Powder, Chilly Powder & bring it to boil.
  • Then, cover it with a lid & let it cook for 10 minutes on low flame or if you are in a hurry cook it in a pressure cooker till 1 whistle. 
  • Finally, your Sambhar is ready to be served with Dosa/Idli/Onion Uttappa or any other food of your choice.
