Sambhar using Homemade Sambhar Premix
What you'll need:- Sambar Premix - ½ cup/3 tbsp (For my Sambhar Premix recipe, click here - https://tastytreatsbyvarsha.blogspot.com/2021/02/sambhar-premix.html )
- Hot Water - 3 to 4 cups
- Oil - 2 tsp
- Curry Leaves (Kadi Pata) - 8 to 10
- Mustard Seeds (Rai) - ½ tsp
- Urad Dal - ½ tsp
- Chickpea Lentil (Chana Dal) - ½ tsp
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - 1 tsp
- Red Chilly (Dried) - 2 to 3
- Asafoetida (Hing) - ¼ tsp
- Ginger (Adrak) - ½ inch piece
- Green Chilly - 1 to 2
- Tomatoes - 2
- Turmeric Powder (Haldi Powder) - ¼ tsp
- Chilly Powder - ½ tsp
- Jaggery - As per taste
- Salt - As per taste
- Water - As required
How to make?- Firstly, take Sambar Premix in a bowl, pour hot water over it, mix well, cover it with a lid & keep it aside.
- Now, take a pan, add all the ingredients from 3 to 12 & cook for 1 to 2 minutes or till it releases aroma.
- Now, add Tomatoes & Salt & cook till Tomatoes become tender. At this time if you want to add vegetables (like Drumsticks, Pumpkin & Bottle Gourd) you can add along with Tomatoes.
- Now, add Sambar Premix & Water mixture prepared above.
- Now, add Water, Jaggery, Turmeric Powder, Chilly Powder & bring it to boil.
- Then, cover it with a lid & let it cook for 10 minutes on low flame or if you are in a hurry cook it in a pressure cooker till 1 whistle.
- Finally, your Sambhar is ready to be served with Dosa/Idli/Onion Uttappa or any other food of your choice.
